I conducted some preliminary research into the main differences between digital/online and print magazines. Whilst researching I found a forum website, which had a lot of interesting comments about which medium people prefer.
I then compiled a list of the main arguments made about differences between digital/online and print magazines, which I will research further:
- Archiving,
- Technology glitches and battery life,
- Physical feel, smell, weight, act of turning page,
- Environment,
- New generations,
- Cost to make and buy (technology / app price on top of magazine price),
- Advertising,
- Size of page, images and text,
- Social status,
- Emotions,
- Navigation,
- Rich media,
- Technophobes,
- Travel to shops / fast access,
- Lack of choice in shops,
- Layout differences,
- Little interaction with computers due to work etc.
